The ECS-UDB3 Smart Storage Device is the newest portable storage device, a more affordable and reliable storage device. The USB 2.0 portable data storage device combines a multi-format flash memory card reader and 2.5-inch hard disk external enclosure. It features a one-touch data backup function and a 40x40mm blue LED-backlit LCD screen. Measuring 115mmx77mmx20mm, it comes with USB 2.0 interface and a rechargeable Li-ion battery.

Q: What is ECS-UDB3 Smart Storage Device?
A: In short, it is a battery operated portable device that allows you to copy digital photos or any files, so you do not have to bring many expensive memory cards, or a heavy laptop. 

Q: Can I use it as a card reader when it is connected to my computer?
A: Yes, you can do that.

Q: How is the battery life?
A: About 1 to 2 hours of usage after a full charge. Copying a card normally takes few minutes, so it is good enough for average users.

Q: Do I need to install any driver to use it on my computer?
A: No, unless you use Windows 98.

Q: How do I format my drive?
A: You should partition the drive first, then format it in FAT32. You can use Windows XP (only for drive 30GB or smaller), Windows 98, Partition Magic, or other 3rd party tools to do it. For units with drives installed, we will do it and it is ready for you to use

****HDD 5gb-30gb may be partitioned and formatted with windows XP.

 

Right click on My Computer.

 

Go to "Manage"

 

Go to Disk Management.

 

Plug in the USB cable to the Digital Partner and Computer.

 

Turn on the Digital Partner.

 

The drive should show up. If there is already a partition  on the drive just delete the partition to make sure. Right click on the drive area and click on partition or format. The format wizard should show up and make sure you format under FAT32.

 

 

 

****Formatting HDD larger than 30gb.

 

You must partition the drive using windows XP.

 

Right click on My Computer.

 

Go to "Manage"

 

Go to Disk Management.

 

Plug in the USB cable to the Digital Partner and Computer.

 

Turn on the Digital Partner.

 

The drive should show up. If there is already a partition  on the drive just delete the partition to make sure. Right click on the drive area and click on partition. (Warning) Make sure you only partition and do not format. You must format with windows 98. The FAT 32 format in windows XP is different and allocated in a  different method than windows 98.

 

After partitioning the drive safely remove the device. (the Digital Partner should automatically shut off)

 

Plug your computer into your windows 98 machine. Make sure you have updated all critical updates and install the windows 98 drivers for the Digital Partner. You may  need to have windows98SE which should be a free upgrade.

 

After installing all updates continue by plugging in the device. If the drive does not show up in My Computer. Read the next section #1. If the drive does show up continue to section #2.

 

1) Go to device manager and you should see the device under "Disk Drives"

 

Right click on the Digital Partner drive and click on Properties. In that screen, make sure you put a check in "Removable Device" (You will have to restart your computer)

 

 

2) When the drive appears in My Computer, double click on the drive and windows will tell you to format. You will need to run a full format.

 

 

**** To determine if the drive has been partitioned correctly, unplug the USB and turn on your DC Partner. You will see a box icon next to the HDD symbol on the screen of your Digital Partner. If there is an "c" within that box it has an error. If there is no "x" the drive is partitioned and formatted correctly.
